Dinner Party etiquette?
A friend of mine decided to host a dinner party and asked everyone to contribute a dish. For me, when I host a party, I do not expect anyone to bring a dish unless we all get together and agree on a potluck. But this is another matter.
I brought dessert, and since there was so much food, we did not even get round to eating the food I brought. The host asked me to bring back home my contribution.
I thought that after all the time and effort to bring a dish, I thought this was pretty rude and cheeky.
Do you think I was correct in feeling this way? Is this the etiquette nowadays?
that is pretty rude. And thats definately more of a potluck. Where I come from the hostess does all the preparing and cooking of food and the guests ussually bring a hostess gift (flowers, candles, bottle of wine.)
I understand your feelings, totally. But just let it go. Stewing over the stupid things that people do wont do you any good.
