(Software as a Service SaaS) is the new generation of ASP model designed to reduce the exorbitant cost of specialized software management Medical. SaaS model is available for all management aspects of medical practice, including scheduling, billing and electronic medical records (TRA), which are essential to the mission of clinical service quality, business operations and regulatory compliance. SaaS model extends the benefits of Application Service Provider (ASP), which in turn evolved from the traditional model of client / server. This article briefly defines the main concepts and defines a set of guidelines for selecting SaaS providers.
Client-Server (CS) Model
Model CS includes servers central database and application logic and client several modules connected to central servers via a LAN. This architecture allows the transfer of significant logic on the client computer.
Taking into account requests for the CS model architects must balance performance and security benefits from increased maintenance costs. CS benefits are derived from local control of business logic and data. CS also deficiencies stemming from the location of the logical data and a local agreement because it requires the user to take responsibility maintenance applications, including data security, redundancy, disaster recovery, upgrades, backups, etc.
Medical practice using the model component must develop internal expertise and the management of many services, including
- Connectivity Internet, bandwidth, and routers
- Servers for Web server software, e-mail and firewall
- Database Management
- Management Food Data
- Capacity Management
- Managing redundancy
- Application Management Upgrade
Financially, the CS models need the software user to make a significant investment in equipment and licenses and to justify the analysis business case using ROI-based arguments that have little meaning, because software and the pace of hardware innovation.
Application Service Provider (ASP)
Shields ASP model of medical practice the high cost of specialized software and responsibilities maintenance of data, but not the initial investment in equipment and software licenses. The first ASP applications have been created From traditional applications of CS moving centralized data and application servers to third service provider hosting and allow access to the application via the HTML user interface as an afterthought. The third provider hosting service is support for application maintenance and data protection.
Medical practice through the first ASP model supports two types of costs:
- Licensing and payment of monthly support for software vendors
- Payment software for hosting hosting provider (usually a pay-as-you-use model)
(Software as a Service SaaS)
ASP SaaS expands the benefits of outsourcing the maintenance of financial responsibility simplified. SaaS vendors eliminate the startup costs for medical practice, making the initial investment in hardware and licenses on behalf of any practical use for medical applications.
To take such a financial commitment, the accommodation provider must develop expertise in application maintenance and development new features. This requirement has become possible with recent technological advances in security (SSL 128 bits) and based on Browser Client performance and the methodology of coding AJAX. The next generation technology represents today for the shortcomings of the model previous CS and justifies native SaaS development network design software.
With greater specialization, the SaaS provider is able to concentrate on the business needs of the client, resulting in a more responsive and customer satisfaction.
Selection SaaS Vendor
Practice in medical research SaaS vendors should focus on the following topics:
- Features: Does the application provide all the required functionality? To identify functional needs subject to the practical business goals, including the practice financial, workflow and personal goals? A built-in functionality of practice management including patient scheduling, SOAP notes and billing?
- Training plan: Does the vendor provide adequate training? What drives the process of training: changes in workflow or functionality of the software available practice?
- Third Party Application Interface: Does the application work with existing applications already deployed in the office? What are the requirements for data exchange must be completed if you decide to buy another application later?
- Performance: How to measure the performance of applications and services? Are formal performance settings permanently available?
- HIPAA Compliance: What controls are in place to allow access only to a need "to see" basis? Does each instance of Microsoft Access connected using a secure mechanism?
- Service Level Agreement: What levels minimum service is guaranteed by the vendor to the customer? What are the penalties for rape ALS?
- Troubleshooting: Is there a process to provide formal identification and resolution of problems? How to track?
- Data Access and Ownership: Who owns the data? Note that under HIPAA, the patient is the ultimate owner of health data. How safe and private link? Is Role Based Access Control (RBAC)?
- Disaster Recovery: How long does it take to recover from a disaster? It is a secondary center offers 24 x 7?
- Disengagement Procedures: How time data are available on the breakdown of this relationship? Who is responsible for data transfer to the seller again?
